Tyson’s Educational Journey

My name is Tyson Brooks, and this ePortfolio chronicles my time studying technical theater at Salt Lake Community College (SLCC).

My path to studying technical theater was an unexpected one guided by intuition and a bit of AI. Back in junior high, I was part of the audio team for plays and assemblies and ran the live camera announcements. In high school, I completed one semester of classes. Despite these experiences, I still had interests spanning many fields.

One restless night, I turned to the AI interface I’d been exploring. I described my varied interests, asking it to analyze and advise which direction I should take if returning to school. Surprisingly, it highlighted technical theater where I could apply my range of skills creatively.

While AI alone didn’t dictate my choice, it did spark realization of how the hands-on problem-solving and technical aspects of theater production aligned with my strengths and passions. That revelation led me to enroll at SLCC, where I immersed myself in bringing ideas to the stage.

You can view that conversation with the AI bot HERE.

During my time at SLCC, I was happily married to my wonderful and supportive wife, Emilie. She worked as a dedicated RN for Intermountain Health. Together we had 4 lively children aged 3 to 11.

Some of my favorite hobbies included tinkering with low voltage electronics and micro controllers. I especially enjoyed enthusiastically designing elaborate Halloween displays for our yard each year, like the foam headstones with different textures and painting that was done to make them look very realistic.

Through this ePortfolio, I’ve chronicled my academic journey in a way that I hope inspires others to pursue their dramatic passions. I’ve aimed to share both my successes and challenges openly.

As I completed my technical courses at SLCC, my educational journey in technical theater came to a pause. This ePortfolio stands as a testament to that period of growth and learning. I’m grateful for the experiences and knowledge gained during my time at SLCC, and I look forward to applying these skills in bringing magic to the stage through technical theater and creating unforgettable experiences that really sell each show. Thank you for joining me on this educational journey!
